The new Hotel Voco, located in the Stephenson district, is the result of a desire to create a distinctive element for the city in an industrial area that is a protagonist of new urban development further encouraged by the EXPO 2015 universal exposition.

The project, co-designed by architect Giancarlo Marzorati (for the architectural design) and architect Simone Micheli (for the interior design), is a tower with 20 floors above ground. The structure has a three-story glass-covered foundation that houses public areas such as the lobby with reception desk, bar, fitness center and spa, conference rooms and a pilotis floor for events. From the fourth floor up, there are 280 rooms. The entrance to the building has a large cantilever roof in the shape of a dragonfly wing.

From the standpoint of plant engineering, the hotel reveals cutting-edge design experience for its use of high-level technological and construction systems, heat exchangers that use geothermal energy and countless other "eco-friendly" control systems. The characteristics of the building envelope influence the energy behavior of the structure, which was designed to greatly reduce energy consumption.

The interior design features a unique choice of sinuous architectural shapes and pastel colors that accompany the visitor on an evocative sensory experience. The light-colored surfaces are offset by colorful furnishings and sculpture-like architectural elements with organic lines that give the space a sense of fluidity.

The Barcelò is a new chapter in hotel design that paves the way for the hotels of the future. Distinctive and imposing on the outside thanks to architect Marzorati's careful design, its iconic and super-functional interior is the result of architect Micheli's dynamic project.
